So there we were, nary a soul to be seen, the sun coming up over the horizon as we sat inside Frame Arch looking out over to Delicate Arch. My friend Joe was taking photographs of the iconic structures. My friend DaveRisner was doing what he did best – being DaveRisner, which is an amazing thing to be. The three of us had this exchange.
What did you do? Nothing.
Where did you go? Nowhere.
Who did you see? No one.
Why did you do it? No reason.
Joe is one of the most quotable persons I know – among so many other things, a children’s book author (http://wiseramuser.com/books/huggable-lou/) and a photographer (http://wiseramuser.com). He’s creating a world that will surely change the way we look at ours.
That was the backdrop to this epic hike. One that took us from Delicate Arch and Frame Arch in the morning and then to Devil’s Garden in the afternoon. That evening, our feet sore wearing flip flops against the cold night sky, we sat at the LaSalle Mountains Viewpoint station, staring at the horizon waiting for the super moon to rise. Fearing the clouds may cover it, the moon broke through to give us the gift of her presence.
A couple days later, in reminiscing about this particular day, Joe would write, “Hike with clowns. They’ll cure your frowns.”
Today was a good day. It was a great day. What did we do? Nothing. Where did we go? Nowhere. Who did we see? No one. Why did we do it? No reason.
And so it was.
