The Birth of SecretOfMySucCecil

On 19 May 2013 at 8:29 AM, my brother-in-law texted me “Blog title proposal: The Secret of my SucCecil” and a passion that was born in 1987 and started growing to the next stage on 8 February 2012, became something real on that May day. My blog http://www.secretofmysuccecil.com became a reality on 8 August 2013. I wanted it to reflect my perspective on life, how what we do affects those around us, that we all matter, that we could choose to be happy, and that the hardships we go through in our lives do not make us special, but rather how we react to them, persevere and rise above them instead make us not only special, but extraordinary. In addition to conversations, emails and text messages, I took to FaceBook to procure ideas for a name. Below are the responses.  (I have some funny, witty and intelligent friends.) What’s the evolution of a name? It took a year after my initial post to come up with the right one.

What’s in a name?

Cecil: need help from my friends. after much deliberation, i’ve decided to start a blog (yes, that does not make me special). though i have not decided specifically what i will write about, i have decided the general theme will be about life, and how precious and amazing the moments in our lives really are – the little things do matter. a life ordinary is in fact extraordinary. what i need help with is this… WHAT SHALL I NAME MY BLOG?

  • Andy: Shine your head with Cecil. February 8, 2012 at 9:52pm · Unlike · 1

  • Cecil: sara, i like that!!! it’s also the name of a movie, so i don’t know if it would be copyrighted… February 8, 2012 at 10:50pm · Like
  • Sara: Hmm..true, but maybe you could still use it! I like that name a lot. Another idea is “One” which sounds a little boring at first glance, but I see it as representing the importance if everything and everyone- one minute, one day, one person, one place. We are all connected and everything we do and say matters….we make an impact; often more than we even realize. Look at me, all deep and profound! This is what happens when I have insomnia! February 8, 2012 at 10:56pm · Unlike · 1

  • Julie: Hey Cecil, you can use a title even if it’s been used before for movies or songs. Copyrights refer to the content and expression of an idea (like a plot line). I think you were worried about a trademark infringement issue where copying a title could be relevant but only if you were using the tile for similar goods or services (I.e. a similar movie or song). • Chris: I’d suggest Wordpress.com to host the blog. Create an account and (optional) follow their simple instructions to make your blog cecilsblog.cominstead of cecilsblog.wordpress.com. Registering a domain name through wordpress is much easier than registering it elsewhere and it’s the same cost. February 9, 2012 at 4:09am · Unlike · 1
