Ever have that one iconic figure in your life that you thought… If only we’d have met? Something incredible would have happened. For me, that person has always been Audrey Hepburn.
George Costanza got to meet Marisa Tomei, so you know it’s definitely within the realm of possibility. It’s only fitting that I get to meet Audrey Hepburn, right? Well, I’m definitely (unfortunately?) not George Costanza (though I once described myself as him for a blind date years ago, pre-Internet days… We were both pleasantly surprised, but that’s another story). And while Marisa Tomei is cute, she’s no Audrey Hepburn. Then again, sadly, Audrey left this world far too long ago. So this meeting won’t ever take place, at least not on this world. The only person I feel that way about these days is Jennifer Aniston.
Anyways, it’s been quite some time since I painted a portrait of anyone. So of course, with watercolours in hand, I painted Audrey. For inspiration, I used “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (or as the Canadians like to call “Breaky at Tiffy’s”, this from a dear friend in Vancouver). (I used colour-pencils for my 1996 portrait of Jen, which has a story all its own, again – for another day.)
If you could meet anyone, who would that person be?
