A Rocky Road with Leaves of Grass

How often does one get to think about both Bob Marley and Walt Whitman at the same time? It can happen on any given hike in the Marin Headlands. On this particular day, we encountered loads of big rocks and boulders, not to mention leaves of grass. Marley no doubt was a poet in addition to being a singer. And Walt I’m sure could have written song lyrics if asked.

“Though the road’s been rocky it sure feels good to me.”
― Bob Marley

“Not I, nor anyone else can travel that road for you.
You must travel it by yourself.
It is not far. It is within reach.
Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know.
Perhaps it is everywhere – on water and land.”
― Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass
