A Big Parade on a Harvest Moon

Some young dudes named the Lumineers decided to have a conversation with rock icon Neil Young. I’m sitting on the balcony on a beautiful September evening watching the full moon rise on the horizon in Tiburon from my vantage point in Sausalito. I could only pick out certain words and phrases between the young and the old. What I could make out turned into a beautiful song drawing upon three songs, two iconic and one about to be, what I thought was a meaningful conversation upon a harvest moon on this particular September Friday night, thoughts they wanted to pass along to my dog Taylor.

Oh my my, Oh hey hey
Neil Young came to play
Oh no! Whaddaya say?
It’s the Lumineers, and we’re here to stay

We’ve both got some words for your boy Tay…

So Neil, it’s your turn — whaddaya say?

Hey hey, my my
Rock and roll can never die
There’s more to the picture
Than meets the eye.
Hey hey, my my.

Oh hey there, Lumineers?
It’s your turn. Cheers!

Oh my my oh hey hey
Here she comes by saving grace
Burn the car and save the plates
She’s arrived, my saving grace

But it’s the harvest moon we’ve come to see
Surely, Neil — you agree
As we sit on Cecil’s balcony
While you sing absently…

But there’s a full moon risin’
Let’s go dancin’ in the light
We know where the music’s playin’
Let’s go out and feel the night…

…Because I’m still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I’m still in love with you
On this harvest moon.

Note. lyrics from Neil Young’s “Hey, Hey, My , My”, “Harvest Moon” and the Lumineers “Big Parade”
