“Go Cubs Go” 10/7 Times

Down 2-0 to the Mets, I could hang my head. But I won’t. Instead, I reminisce about how I felt last week Tuesday, happy the Cubbies are in a position, while down at the moment, to come back.

I’ve been grinning ear-to-ear, almost a whole week since the last time my smile was this big. Last week Wednesday 10/7, the Cubs beat the Pirates in a one-game playoff in the wild card for the chance to play the Cardinals in the divisional round. And today, for the first time in the history of their franchise, the Cubbies won a playoff series at home.

Chicago is electric tonight!!! And more than anything, I wish I could be there with all the revelers singing “Go, Cubs, go! Go, Cubs, go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today.” And they did! Perusing my Facebook feed just now, I can’t but feel so happy for all Cubs fans, for the city of Chicago, as well as feel nostalgic for my days in the city that will always be my city.

Earlier today, my buddy Alex sent me and a couple other friends his recording taken outside Wrigley Field, the noise of the crowd in Chicago’s game three victory (one in which the Cubs bats carried Arrieta on a night when he was not sharp) and the crowd joining in a rousing chorus of the famous Cubs team song. I played it ten times in a row on my drive north up the 101 back home. With 107 miles to go (not making this up), I happened to find the actual song on Spotify, playing it over and over and over again. I could not get enough.

I was ready for Game 4. This could be the day the Cubs advance to the NLCS.

Hours later, they made a few dreams come true. Bring on the Mets!

Go Cubs Go!
