21 February 2015, I decided to become a coffee drinker. Technically, I made that decision 18 December 2014 when I was outside DC visiting my sister’s family. My brother made an extra cup that morning, and I was forever changed. Well, “forever is a mighty long time, let me tell you. There’s something else…”
Since that day in February, at least two or three times a week in the morning, I drink coffee. I’ve even had coffee in the afternoon on three different occasions.
None of this may seem like a big deal, but for me it’s huge. The amount of creative energy I feel soon after a cup is unprecedented.
I now have my ritual. I’ve become a fan of Philz Coffee in Sausalito with a location in Redwood City near my office. I purchase the Philtered Soul beans whole and grind them in my new manual grinder, sticking the fresh grounds into my Bodum French Press. And then in my coffee once it’s ready, to sweeten it, I add combinations of organic coconut palm sugar, dark muscovado sugar from Mauritius, and sometimes honey.
Add to that bacon, eggs and hash browns.
What a great way to start the day!
And then of course are sweet slobbery kisses from my boy Tay. It doesn’t get any better.
