Harvest Moon

In 1972, Neil Young released Harvest.

Twenty years later in 1992, Neil Young released Harvest Moon. Both seminal works by the music giant; both are among my favourites. Harvest Moon reminds me of the time in my life when I moved to Chicago after graduating from college, the time in my life I was starting to become a man, whatever that might mean. Everything was new then. New city. New life. New experiences.

Flash forward another twenty plus years, in 2013, I moved to the Bay Area. And it happened all over again. New city. New life. New experiences.

This year’s harvest moon, which is the full moon closest to the autumn equinox, was also a super moon, which meant it appeared 15% bigger and 30% brighter than usual.

The harvest moon was Saturday night 27 August 2015. I was out with friends, and actually had no idea. So it was that Taylor and I were coming back from a walk around 8:15 PM the next night, when a gargantuan orange moon sat on the horizon just above the hills of Tiburon. We both stopped on our tracks (well, at least I did), mesmerized at this awesome beauty.

For a few hours, I stood there on my balcony with my camera sitting on a steady tripod, snapping away, in awe. I still haven’t quite figured out my Canon 60D to get the settings just right to snap pictures.

There will be two more super moons before the end of the year on 28 September and 27 October. I cannot wait!!
